SELECTED FILMS FOR FESTIVAL SCREENING:
OSCAR VISITS THE SHORTFEST:
We are delighted to confirm that the Oscar-nominated short film, "7:35 In The Morning" has been submitted to the TucsonFilm.com ShortFest. Directed by rising Spanish star Nacho Vigalondo, the ingenious short will undoubtedly be one of the festival's highlights.
FILM SELECTION INTRODUCTION:
We have seen film screenings in Southern Arizona for more than 20 years, and we sincerely believe we’ve assembled the finest selection of shorts ever for a Tucson audience. That statement is not meant to denigrate anyone else’s efforts — we’ve seen other fabulous screenings here — but instead it shows how now is a great time to be a short film maker (and watcher). Of course, it’s up to the audience to decide if we have succeeded with our lofty goals. Come and see, hear, and share with us your reactions to all our efforts on Saturday, April 15 at the Loft Cinema, and judge for yourself!
Films were selected for two separate screening opportunities: theatrical and online. In some cases films will be shown in both venues. The films selected for theatrical exhibition are in competition (except as noted), but the online selections are no less important. In some cases the judges felt some films would actually be more effective online. We should note that some of the hundreds of films we viewed chose not to be considered for online exhibition, which is a shame because we had many more entries we wished to select. But we understand and respect the filmmakers’ wishes —- we’re doing all of this for you! (The online selections will appear soon after the April 15 ShortFest, by the way.)
We also give our thanks to the scores of filmmakers who took the time and effort to submit, but were not selected. We are limited by a three-hour theatrical time and the constraints of Web streaming, so unfortunately some works cannot be included. One of our greatest goals at the ShortFest is to INCLUDE other filmmakers, so all films that were entered will be offered TWO FREE festival passes. We want to see ALL the filmmakers who entered the ShortFest meet each other at this festival and be included — all as valuable and important filmmakers. We will not propagate the culture of exclusion that many other festivals breed!
One thing is for sure — You will have a tough time choosing the “Audience Selection” award!
